Kermits Pool is a standout destination nestled in Hancock Gorge within Karijini National Park, renowned for its captivating beauty. This natural oasis boasts inviting emerald green waters that beckon visitors for a refreshing swim.
To access Kermits Pool, you'll embark on a 1.4 km round trip trail from Weano Gorge carpark. The trail itself adds to the adventure, involving navigating ladders and weaving through rock formations. Along the way, you'll encounter points where you can enjoy some exhilarating rock scrambling or opt for a quick swim through the gorge. During my visit, I chose to take a swim early on, anticipating getting wet eventually. The water isn't deep in this section, and I could touch the bottom all the way, although the rocks can be quite slippery, so caution is advised.
The canyon's rock formations vary from narrow passages where you can touch both sides at once to wide-open sections, offering a dynamic landscape. Once you've passed through the narrow canyon, known as the Spider Walk, you'll arrive at the picturesque pool surrounded by towering red cliffs.
It's important to note that Kermits Pool is a popular destination, so you'll likely encounter other adventurers along the trail. When I arrived around 9 am, there was only one other visitor enjoying the serene atmosphere. By 10 am, however, families and groups had started to arrive, bringing the total number of people in the area to about 15. For a quieter and more peaceful experience, and for that perfect photo opportunity, it's advisable to arrive early.
