Tjaetaba Falls are stunning with their 25-meter drop, they're a real show-stopper! However what makes them even more exciting is the waterhole sitting right at the top, where Greenant Creek flows in before tumbling over the edge in a spectacular waterfall display. It's such a nice spot to cool off and enjoy the refreshing waters before they take the plunge.
If you visit this spot early in the morning or late in the arvo you are likely to have the place all to yourself. Below Tjataba Falls is a large pool that is off-limits for tourists as it is a sacred site for the indigenous Australians of the area.
To get to the falls start by parking at Tjaetaba Falls Car Park and follow the 2.7km trail that leads you to the plunge pool. Don't worry though, the trail is well-maintained and family-friendly, so everyone should find it manageable. Along the way, you'll cross a bridge over Greenant Creek and then follow the stream upstream towards the falls. The trail does include a few uphill sections, so plan for about 1.5 hours of walking time to complete the round trip. In total, you'll cover 5.4km on foot.
When you reach the end of the hike, you'll find yourself at a fork where you can choose to walk towards the plunge pool in one direction or head towards the waterfall lookout in the other. Be sure to visit the lookout—it offers a lovely view of the surrounding scenery and the waterfall itself.
I found the water at Tjaetaba Falls absolutely magical. When I arrived, there were about 6 or 7 other travelers enjoying the spot. However, after an hour or so of swimming and soaking up the sun, I had the entire place to myself, which was just perfect. The water wasn't incredibly deep, maybe around 3 meters, so I couldn't touch the bottom easily. It was ideal for swimming and cooling off.
