The Cairns Art Gallery is an absolute gem for anyone keen on diving into local culture and art while exploring Cairns. Located right in the city center, this gallery features a fantastic mix of contemporary and traditional artworks from Australian and international artists. The building itself is a delightful fusion of old-world charm with its historic façade and modern, open gallery spaces inside.
The exhibitions are constantly rotating, so there's always something new and exciting to see—whether it’s Indigenous art, cutting-edge installations, or intriguing new works. Entry is free, though some special exhibitions might have a small fee. While I was wandering along the Esplanade, I found the gallery to be a welcoming retreat from the city’s hustle, offering a chance to ponder and appreciate art in a cool, relaxed setting. Plus, with frequent events and workshops, there’s often something extra to enjoy. It’s a perfect way to spend a leisurely afternoon and soak up some local culture.
