I heard from multiple locals that this beach is their absolute favourite, not just in Northland but in all of New Zealand! It’s a pretty bold claim, but I’ll let you be the judge. I will say, though, it’s an insanely beautiful spot. Tucked away in the Bay of Islands, getting here is a bit of a mission. You’ll need to drive along a winding road to reach it but trust me, the journey is worth it.
One thing to note is the parking situation, which is not ideal. There isn’t a designated car park, so you’ll need to park on the side of the road. Don’t stress, though, there’s plenty of room for cars and vans. Just take it slow as you approach and check out the best spot to pull over.
Now for the beach itself! Once you’re parked, there’s a short staircase and a 50-meter trail that leads down, with stunning views over the bay as you walk. You’ll often spot catamarans and yachts anchored offshore, adding to the dreamy vibe. The water here is crystal clear and calm, making it super family-friendly. When I visited, I had the whole beach to myself, crazy, right? It felt like my own private slice of paradise.
If you’re after some cute beach photos, head to the far end of the bay, where you’ll find two gorgeous old trees. They’re climbable and, in my opinion, make the perfect backdrop for pics. Whether you’re here to swim, relax, or snap a few shots, this beach is an absolute dream. Enjoy
