Emma Gorge at El Questro in the Kimberleys is a place that's both serene and exhilarating, where a leisurely one-hour walk leads you to a hidden oasis of cascading waterfalls. What sets Emma Gorge apart is that it's one of the rare spots in El Questro accessible even to 2WD vehicles.
Getting there is part of the adventure. The journey winds along a dirt road, mostly well-maintained but with a few corrugated sections and the occasional river crossing. Take it slow and steady and trust me, any vehicle can handle it with a bit of patience!
The trail to the falls is marked however can get a little confusing so download a map so you don't get lost. It is a popular track so you're likely to encounter fellow adventurers along the 3.4km round trip. Remember, plan your visit between May and August when the weather is cooler. During the wet season, the area closes due to flooding, so timing is key.
Now, the waterfall itself is so stunning, it is a 65-meter drop into a crystal-clear turquoise pool. The water's chilly, but on a blazing Kimberley day, it's pure bliss for a refreshing swim.
