Kata Tjuta, also known as the Olgas, is a striking rock formation near Uluru in Australia's Red Centre. If I’m being completely honest I had never heard of Kata Tjuta until I was looking into things to do at Uluru which is criminal because this place is just as special and significant. Like Uluru, it's a sacred site for the Anangu people, the landmark is made up of massive domes and steep-sided gorges, offering a stunning landscape shaped over millions of years.
To make the most of your visit I suggest doing the Valley of the Winds walk. This hike is 7.4 kilometers and is rated as a level 4 trail, meaning it's moderate to difficult. Plan for about 4 hours to complete the journey. But let me tell you, it's worth every step. Walking among these massive rock formations feels like exploring another planet altogether. The Mars-like landscape adds an otherworldly element to the experience, making it truly unforgettable.
But if you're short on time or energy, you can opt for a shorter walk to the Karu Lookout and Karingana Lookout which also offers unforgettable experiences.
The Karu lookout trail, a 2.2-kilometer return journey taking about an hour, provides moderately difficult terrain with some loose rocks along the way. Once you reach the lookout your effort will all pay off with breathtaking views.
