I hate to sound like a broken record, but seriously, Kings Canyon blew me away like nothing else in the Aussie desert. I mean, after experiencing the awe of Uluru and Kata Tjuta, I thought nothing could top them, but Kings Canyon had me constantly spellbound. The sheer beauty of those sandstone cliffs rising up from the desert floor is something you just have to see to believe. And those colors! They change with the light, creating a mesmerizing tapestry that feels like it's straight out of a dream. Trust me, Kings Canyon is a desert paradise that'll leave you speechless.

For the ultimate adventure in Watarrka National Park, you must do the King Canyon Rim Walk. This 6km circuit isn't just a stroll; it's the crown jewel of jaw-dropping scenery. I highly recommend starting just before sunrise to beat the heat and soak in the magic hour vibes. Yes, it's early, but trust me, it's worth it.

I hit the trail around 7 am, perfect for catching sunrise atop "Heartbreak Hill," the toughest part with 500 steps. Watching the fiery sunrise over the rugged sandstone cliffs is the best "good morning" you'll ever get. Along the way, majestic sandstone cliffs stand sentinel, revealing the secrets of this ancient land.

As you traverse the rim, the landscape unfolds like a living canvas, each step revealing weathered rock formations and hidden waterholes, a testament to nature's beauty. Then there's the Garden of Eden, a lush oasis amidst the canyon walls. Here, you can swim in a natural rock pool surrounded by birdsong and rustling leaves. It's a sacred site for the Traditional Owners, offering a moment for reflection amidst the orange and green reflections on the water. The most awe-inspiring moment? Reaching the canyon's rim. From here, the rugged beauty stretches as far as the eye can see. Our tour group yelled into the canyon, the echoes creating an unforgettable experience.
