Rainbow Falls (Waianiwaniwa) is such a stunning spot to check out while exploring Northland! This 27-meter single-drop waterfall is a showstopper, with water plunging dramatically into a picturesque pool below. The falls were created by the erosion of mudstone beside a tougher basalt layer, which gives it a unique look compared to other New Zealand waterfalls.
From the carpark, it’s only about 600 meters to explore the area properly. The short walk takes you to two lookouts above the falls before leading you down to the base for that up-close magic. It’s an easy stroll with rewarding views at every turn. Plus, you can link onto other trails from here; just check out the signs and map at the car park to plan your adventure. Unfortunately, you cant swim in these falls but it's definitely worth a stop to soak in the natural beauty.
