The Northern Territory's Capital City

Message from Cass

To be perfectly honest, Darwin City doesn't offer a wide range of activities. It's a relatively small capital compared to other cities, and what really sets the Northern Territory apart is its breathtaking natural beauty and landscapes. However, if you are in the top end of the NT you may as well pop in to grab some necessities and groceries. Below are a few suggestions on things to do,

Mindil Beach Sunset Markets

  • Every Thursday and Sunday evening, from May to October, Mindil Beach hosts a lively market with 150 stalls. You'll find all sorts of stuff there—food, arts, crafts, and more. These markets have been a Darwin tradition for over 30 years, bringing together people from all walks of life.

  • It's not just about shopping; it's about soaking up the vibes, grabbing a bite to eat (and maybe some cool jewelry—I'm a sucker for that!), and finding a sweet spot to chill out and watch the sunset over the beach.

Stroll along the Esplanade

  • For a chill walk around the city head to the Esplanade. You will be able to stroll around the WWII walking trail that overlooks the Darwin Harbour. You can stop along the way at Bicentennial Park’s grassy lawns and people-watch or read a book before discovering tales of Darwin’s military past and local heroes. Keep an eye out for the hand-painted tiles that celebrate ‘200 remarkable Territorians’ who shaped the Territory.

Doctor’s Gully

  • Make sure to schedule your trip to Doctors Gully in Darwin during high tide—it's when the aquascene fish feeding frenzy kicks off! Picture hundreds of fish swimming in, hungry for a free meal, and you get to join in the fun by feeding them. This lively scene has become one of Darwin's top tourist hotspots, attracting crowds eager to witness this unique spectacle.
