Okay, will this spot leave you completely speechless? Probably not. But it’s still super cool to check out and walk across! The Whananaki Footbridge connects the two sides of the Whananaki Estuary and holds the title of the longest footbridge in the Southern Hemisphere, 395 meters long! Built in 1947 with locally sourced timber and labour, it’s got some solid history behind it too. It’s a great place for a chill stroll or to snap a few pics for the gram.
But heads up! I 100% WOULDN'T recommend trying to get here from Whananaki South unless you’re in the mood for a stressful back-and-forth along a narrow, winding dirt road (I've been there, and regretted that). Instead, save yourself the hassle (and fuel) by heading to the north side via Whananaki North Road. Trust me, your sanity will thank you.

Also, while visiting Whananaki, I’d recommend checking out Otamure Bay. It’s a stunning beach with heaps of rope swings dotted along the grassy stretch by the shore. There’s even a DOC campsite at Otamure Bay, which is such a beautiful spot to camp for a night or two!
