To be honest, I didn’t have a clear plan for what to explore in Gippsland and ended up stumbling upon this spot purely out of boredom. The Den of Nargun turned out to be a real gem, where you can check out some ancient Aboriginal rock art and soak in the natural beauty of the area. Legend has it that the Nargun, a fearsome creature from Aboriginal stories, lurks in the cave behind the waterfall, which adds an intriguing twist to the visit.
To reach the waterhole from the car park, you’ll follow a 5-kilometer circuit. The terrain is super dense and moist, creating a lush, moss-covered landscape that’s just gorgeous. It’s a pretty quiet spot, so you’re likely to have the whole place to yourself, as I did, I didn’t see a soul during my visit. It’s a fantastic place to explore if you’re into nature or just looking for a unique adventure in the Aussie bush. Plus, the solitude and the slightly eerie legend of the Nargun make it all the more memorable.
