Area
I loved this area! On the day that I visited, the weather was misty and rainy, and the falls were flowing heavy making the experience feel like a fairy-tale adventure. This spot is perfect for a refreshing escape into nature, offering breathtaking waterfalls and scenic river walks, ideal for a day trip or a weekend getaway. The reserve features two main waterfalls: the impressive Toorongo Falls and the picturesque Amphitheatre Falls, both of which are must-sees.
There’s a 3-kilometer circuit trail that takes you through lush forest, alongside the Toorongo River, and past these two beautiful falls. The trail is well-maintained and suitable for all fitness levels. When I visited, it was surprisingly packed; the car park was full and there were lots of people on the trail, maybe it was on a weekend or school holidays. Nevertheless, as I hiked through the breathtaking views of the cascading falls and serene river scenery, I managed to block out the crowd and feel a deep sense of peace.
I also spotted a really nice campsite right by the falls, which is a great option for those wanting to extend their visit. The campsite fees are around $25 per night, making it a reasonably affordable choice for an overnight stay. While you're in the area, don’t miss out on the nearby Noojee Trestle Bridge. This destination is a fantastic spot to reconnect with nature and enjoy some tranquil time.
