Hike
1-2h
This was the first hike I tackled when I arrived in the spectacular Grampians National Park, and wow, what a perfect introduction to the area! The Chatauqua Peak Loop is a fantastic 6-kilometer trail that offers a moderately challenging hike with stunning views all along the way. You’ll start at the Halls Gap Picnic Area and set off on a journey that takes you through Chatauqua Peak, Climatis Falls, and Bullaces Glen, each spot showcasing its own unique slice of natural beauty. The hike kicks off with panoramic views over Halls Gap and Lake Bellfield, giving you a taste of the incredible scenery that awaits.
The trail does include some rocky terrain and a bit of scrambling, especially as you make your way up to the peak. It’s a bit of a workout, but trust me, the effort is totally worth it for the breathtaking 360-degree views from the top. As you hike, you'll also have the chance to see native wildlife and enjoy gorgeous scenery that makes every step worthwhile. One of the best things about this trail is that it’s a lot less busy than other hikes in the area, I didn’t encounter anyone else while I was out there, which really allowed me to connect deeply with nature and soak in the tranquility of the country.
