To me, crocodiles are the scariest animals on the planet, I swear I have nightmares about them at least once a month. But despite my fear, I can't deny how incredible it is to see these dinosaurs in the wild.
Cahills Crossing stands out as one of the best free spots in the Northern Territory to witness crocs in their natural habitat. This destination offers a safe viewing area along the East Alligator River, where you're guaranteed to encounter plenty of saltwater crocs.
Cahills Crossing is a road that traverses the river, where adventurous travelers drive through croc-infested waters. Many crocs bask and relax along this stretch of road, making it quite the spectacle to watch them slide away or hold their ground as vehicles pass through.
The area also features a picnic spot, perfect for enjoying the thrill of croc-watching while surrounded by the stunning outback scenery. It's an unforgettable experience that blends excitement, awe, and a touch of adrenaline for any visitor brave enough to witness these ancient predators in action. Make sure to plan your visit in the dry season (April - September), roads here do flood in the wet season.
