Makrigialos is a hidden gem in eastern Crete, home to one of the region’s finest beaches. With its long sandy shore and shallow, crystal-clear waters, it’s perfect for relaxation. Located 30 minutes east of Ierapetra, it offers a peaceful escape from major tourist areas.

The charming old harbor features cozy tavernas and cafés, while the surrounding area is ideal for exploration. Enjoy lovely beaches, traditional villages, and hikes through the Pefki and Orino gorges. Historical highlights include a Roman villa in Katovigli and a Minoan villa at Plakakia.

Bordering Analipsi, Makrigialos is set against a striking mountain backdrop with accessible gorges as impressive as the Samaria Gorge. The beachfront offers accommodations, stylish yet relaxed dining, and a welcoming local atmosphere free from mass tourism.

The name "Makrys Gialos" comes from its 2 km-long beach, but the area is known for many beautiful coastal spots.

Originally a fishing village, Makrigialos has grown into a charming holiday destination while maintaining its tranquil appeal—perfect for a laid-back getaway. You'll find everything you need like pharmacy, supermarket, bakery etc.
