Nesteld in the Dhikti mountains of eastern Crete, the Lassithi plateau is a highland region known for its landscape, rich mythologie and cretan culture.

Located about 25 km from Agios Nikolaos at 850m of altitude. According to legends, Zeus, the king of the gods was born in the Dhikteon cave, located on the Plateau. If you are interested in caves you should visit this place, you can admire rock formations and deep chambers.

The windmills of the Lassithi Plateau are iconic structures that once played a crucial role in local agriculture. Built primarily in the 19th and early 20th centuries, these white-sailed windmills were used to pump water for irrigation, allowing farmers to cultivate fruits, vegetables and diary products in the fertile plateau. In the past, over 10000 windmills covered this area. While many are no longer in use, some have been restored, preserving the region’s cultural and historical heritage.

The plateau is dotted with charming Cretan villages, where you can experience authentic local life.

The winding mountain roads towards the plateau, offers some of the best panoramic views in Crete.
