The Tavy Cleave and Hare Tor Circular Walk is a great adventure and a must do if you're looking for a hike and a swim on Dartmoor!
The hike is a moderate one which leads you along the picturesque riverbanks of the River Tavy, with the tranquil stream accompanying you on one side and the gentle rapids on the other.
The start of the hike follows a well marked and easy path, however after about 1km, the path does nearly disappear in the long grass and the ground becomes more rocky. This will certainly be a hike for those who are looking for something a little more adventurous. After a few kms, you'll come across the pool at Tavy Cleave, a beautiful wild swimming spot. It's generally quite a shallow pool, so will be better for a dip, but the backdrop will certainly make it a spot to remember.
Continue past the pool and begin the climb up Hare Tor for breathtaking vistas of the surrounding area. Even in the summer, this hike is boggy, so be sure to dress accordingly and bear in mind the trail will be better in the summer, after a longer period of dry weather.
