St Michael's Church in Princetown, Devon is a unique and beautiful church, perched atop an hill with panoramic views of Dartmoor.
It also has a really interesting backstory. Built between 1812-14 by prisoners of war captured during the Napoleonic Wars and the War of 1812, it stands as a testament to their craftsmanship. Located on Dartmoor, it's known for its simple design and slender tower. The interior is just as plain as the exterior, but the east window contains stained glass from 1910, honoring the American prisoners who helped build the church. Despite its lack of modern amenities like heating and running water, it remains a beautiful venue for events and a must-visit for history enthusiasts.
