Hiking with small hidden Temples along the way

Hike

Nice and relatively easy hike that connects the top point of Kurama-dera Temple with all of the other activities around Kibune Shrine. Along the path, you will be able to check out some small and tranquil temples.

Depending on how fast you will be, this hike will take around 40-60 minutes.

📍 Start of the hike 📍 End of the hike

If you don't want to do a hike after you finish exploring Kurama-dera to get to the area around Kibune Shrine:

  1. You will have to get back down from the top of the temple to its entry at the bottom (it will take around 15 minutes to get back down if you ride the cable car, excluding the wait time / 30-45 minutes by foot);

  2. Then you will need to go around the mountain by riding 2 buses / 1 tram + 1 bus (usually 30 min, excluding wait time)

🗾 How to get from Kurama-dera Temple's entrance to the Kibune Shrine area (end point of the hike) by public transport

Personally, I would choose the hiking path because it is simply faster, and I am a huge fan of an occasional hike (especially considering that this one is pretty easy). If you do not enjoy being in the forest and/or you feel tired, then the public transport option is also absolutely fine.

Hike time: 40-60 min VS. Public transport option 45-75 min + waiting time

*It is easier to do this hike starting from the top of Kurama-dera; *Comfortable footwear is highly recommended! I've included some photos of the path so that you may have a rough idea of how hard/easy this hike is; *If you start this hike from Kurama-dera, almost right at the beginning, there will be a 3-floor building which is a museum - personally I do not recommend visiting it. It has a huge collection of flora that grows around the area and some antiques from different eras, but in my opinion, a visit to any of the old Temples in Kyoto that have all kinds of artifacts and antiques feels 10 times more authentic than a visit to this museum.
