Tōji-in is a beautiful Buddhist temple that was established at the beginning of the Heian Period (1341). It has always been an important cultural property and has ties to the Ashikaga dynasty, as all 15 of their shōguns have been buried here.

What I really enjoyed about this temple is that it was really peaceful and calm because I was the only visitor in the whole temple (around 11 am). Not to mention, the main hall is surrounded by absolutely stunning gardens and ponds.

For an extra 500 JPY, you can also enjoy a cup of good matcha and a tasty dessert, which I totally recommend doing. *Be sure to check out its website to see which flowers are currently in bloom.
