The Battle of Culloden, 16th April 1746

The Battle of Culloden was the final showdown of the Jacobite rising of 1745, where the Jacobite army led by Charles Edward Stuart clashed with British government forces under Prince William Augustus, Duke of Cumberland. On April 16, 1746, in the Scottish Highlands, the Jacobites suffered a crushing defeat, marking the end of their rebellion. Despite some French support, the outnumbered and exhausted Jacobites couldn't match the well-rested British troops. The battle lasted only an hour, resulting in heavy casualties for the Jacobites. This clash at Culloden remains a significant event in British history, stirring up strong emotions even today.
