Pachena Bay is a picturesque bay on the west coast of Vancouver Island. Sandy, flat and blue waters - a classic west coast beach.
This is the trailhead of the famous West Coast Trail, but you don't need to hike in order to visit this beautiful bay. A little off the beaten path but definitely worth the trip if you are looking for an adventure!
In 1700, a massive earthquake and tsunami wiped out the First Nation's village of Anacla, leaving no survivors. Today, the Huu-ay-aht First Nations call this bay home, with plans in place to evacuate residents to higher ground in case of future tsunamis.
This is also the home of the annual Pachena Bay music festival. This is a super unique beach event with live music, educational and inspirational workshops, beach days, off-site adventures, and dance parties.
Pachena Bay Campground is here, as well as the nearby village of Bamfield with more accommodations and restaurants available.
