Waterfall
Della Falls is a bucket list hike on Vancouver Island!
It is often referred to as Canada's tallest waterfall but it is actually Canada's 16th tallest waterfall. But an incredible sight nonetheless!
With its stunning 440-metre-tall waterfall, lush river valley, and remote location accessible only by boat, it offers a unique and unforgettable backpacking experience.
Hikers can explore the rugged terrain, camp beside the roaring falls, and soak in the beauty of nature at every turn.
• To get there it is an hour and a half drive from Nanaimo to Great Central Lake.
• From there you can book a boat ride with Della Falls taxi or paddle in yourself across this 45 km lake.
• Congrats! You have finally made it to the trailhead!
• From here the hike in is difficult, 29.6 km, 1087 m elevation, out and back trail.
• This is not a day hike! And it’s best experienced as a two to three night backpacking trip.
• There are multiple camps along the trail to help you split the hike up.
• The main attraction on this hike is Della Falls - but make sure you hike to Love Lake as well!
• Love Lake adds on another difficult 3 km and 600 m elevation, but it is the highlight for us!
This is a remote hike with no service. Pack, prepare and plan properly.
This is bear and cougar territory. Know how to deal with encounters of both animals.
Respect the land and leave no trace when visiting. Pack out what you pack in!
As with any long/overnight hike, make sure to properly research the trail so that you are properly prepared with the right gear and are aware of current trail conditions.
