The Cape Scott Trail is a rugged and beautiful hike that takes you through old-growth rainforest, coastal bogs, and stunning white sand beaches. The trail leads to the historic Cape Scott lighthouse at the northern tip of the island, passing by remnants of Danish settlers' homesteads along the way.

There are camps set up along the way and even some beach camping.

Some things to note is that there are many muddy sections, lots of boardwalks and old wooden boards, roots to traverse over, pit toilets and bear caches available at all campsites.

Most people spend 3 days here: Day 1 hike to Nels Bight and camp there (18km), Day 2 a day hike to the Cape and return (14km), and Day 3 back out to the parking lot (18km). A day hike or overnight camping at San Josef Bay (3-4km from the parking lot) is an easy hike and over a well-groomed gravel trail.

Make sure to consult a tide chart to access certain parts of the trail.

As with any long/overnight hike, make sure to properly research the trail so that you are properly prepared with the right gear and are aware of current trail conditions.
