If you’re a fan of beautiful mountain views and enjoying the peace and quiet of the Dolomites, Rifugio Adolfo Sonino al Coldai is a great place. It’s located at 2135 meters near the picturesque Lago Coldai, making it the perfect spot for sunrise and sunset shots.
Accommodation
The refuge offers rooms with bunk beds—some rooms are for 2 people, others for 4, and there are larger dormitories as well. I recommend checking ahead for availability, especially if you’re planning to stay in high season. You’ll need to bring a sleeping bag liner, but the rest is taken care of. And if you're like me and enjoy photography, you’ll appreciate how you’re surrounded by stunning mountain vistas no matter where you are.
Meals and Facilities
The refuge has a dining area where you can enjoy hot meals and drinks... perfect after a long day of hiking. And trust me, after a day in the mountains, that meal tastes even better!
Hiking and Views
The best part is the access to the trails—whether you’re an avid hiker or just looking for a relaxed stroll, you’ll find some amazing routes around the refuge. From here, you can also get some killer photos of the surrounding mountains at sunrise and sunset. If you're into photography like I am, make sure to pack your gear because the golden hour here is unreal.
How to Get There
It’s about a 2-3 hour hike (one way) from the parking Piani di Pezze, so it’s manageable for most people. If you’re not up for a full-day hike, you can just pop by and enjoy a quick escape from the crowds.
