Adashino Nenbutsu-ji Temple in Kyoto is a unique spot with around 8,000 stone statues honoring the souls of the deceased. Founded centuries ago, it's a peaceful place where lonely spirits are remembered. The temple hosts an annual Sento-Kuyo ceremony in August, where thousands of candles light up the statues, creating a mystical atmosphere. It's a must-visit for those seeking a serene and spiritual experience in the beautiful Sagano area of Kyoto. It is also a smaller alternative to the Arashiyama Bamboo forest and with much fewer crowds - you can opt to visit this instead
