How to pack for your adventure in Iceland

Iceland has an average temperature of 15°C/59°F in summer and an average temperature of 0°C/32°F in winter. But don't let Iceland fool you by the average temperature in winter because the winds in Iceland are next level. It feels most of the time way colder than it actually is.

Therefore: I always recommend to pack layers and in winter a very thick jacket like a skiing jacket and thick trousers. Furthermore, I always recommend natural materials like wool as these materials adjust the best to the always changing weather of Iceland. Woolen sweaters and underwear are what I am using myself.

Where to eat

Food in Iceland is very expensive. Therefore, I recommend to not always eat in a restaurant. A normal main dish in an average restaurant costs approximately 20€/22$, a soft drink 3,30€/3,60$, beer 8,80€/9,50$, and a glass of wine 10,50€/11,40$.

When buying your food in supermarkets there is also a price difference depending to which store you go. Bonus followed by Kronan are the cheapest stores. I personally go to Bonus for all the basic products like milkproducts, pasta and cereals, whereas I am buying vegetables and fruits in Kronan. Netto and Krambudin are more expensive stores.

You can buy alcohol only in special wine stores called vinbudin. But due to the taxes the alcohol is very expensive. Therefore, I recommend buying alcohol at the airport upon arrival.
