Gjárfoss is a majestic waterfall in the Gjáin valley of Southern Iceland. With its stunning 49 ft (15 m) height, it forms a nearly perfect pool at the base of the falls. Surrounded by lush greenery and basalt columns, this paradise offers visitors a unique natural swimming hole. It is believed that Icelandic elves and spirits inhabit this area, adding to its mystical beauty! For those who prefer to explore on land, Gjárfoss also sits near the Stöng viking era long house and is accessible in 2 hours from Reykjavík if travelling by car. Gjárfoss is an unforgettable spot for pools, hikes, and learning about Icelandic history.

For me this is one of the most magical waterfalls in Iceland. Not only the waterfall itself impresses with the basalt columns and the magical flair but also the surroundings, Gjáin, is like a natural Garden Eden on earth.
