Vinegar Hill is a neighborhood in Brooklyn, New York. It is located in the area of DUMBO, between the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges. It is a historically Irish-American neighborhood, and is known for its cobblestone streets and 19th century architecture. Commandant's house is a historic mansion in Evans Street. It was part of the Brooklyn Navy yard and owned by Commodore Matthew C Perry between 1841 and 1843. The house was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1974. It is privately owned and not open to the public, but walking towards this mansion will give you a good impression of the historic district Vinegar Hill.
