Kilkenny Castle, located in Kilkenny, Ireland, was built in 1260 as a symbol of Norman occupation. Originally constructed by Strongbow, it underwent various phases of development and ownership by the Butler family. In the 20th century, the castle faced neglect but was later restored and opened to visitors. Today, managed by the Office of Public Works, the castle and its grounds are a popular tourist attraction with a rich history that includes being the site of the Confederate Ireland parliament during the 17th century.
