Portumna Castle and Gardens, located on the shores of Lough Derg in County Galway, is a stunning example of seventeenth-century architecture. Built by the fourth earl of Clanricarde, the castle boasts a unique blend of medieval and Renaissance styles. Although a fire in 1826 left it roofless, ongoing restoration work has brought it back to life. Visitors can explore the ground floor, enjoy the picturesque formal gardens, and learn about the castle's history through an exhibition. With its scenic setting near the River Shannon and Portumna Forest Park, it's the perfect spot for a delightful day out.
