This area of the Reykjanes peninsula has had a lot of Volcanic eruptions in the last few years, with 7 eruptions in 2024 alone. From this trailhead you can hike around and look at the new lavafields that have formed recently, it's an amazing place where you can witness the raw power of nature and how it has formed the Icelandic landscape.
