The Guindaste Viewpoint (also called Crane Viewpoint) is undoubtedly one of the must-visit locations in Madeira. This viewpoint on the northern part of the island offers a stunning view of Ponta de São Lourenço and the Penha D’Águia rock in Porto da Cruz. The viewpoint is just a few steps away from the small parking around the roundabout.

Due to its convenient location, the Crane Viewpoint is a great place to start your day by catching the sunrise over the cliffs and then continuing your trip around the island. If you visit at sunrise, you'll likely encounter a few photographers aiming to capture this classic Madeira shot. The view from the rugged cliffs is mesmerizing but this place can also be dangerous, so exercise caution. There's a new, small, but very nice, free parking area available on the sight. As well there is a brand-new built skywalk, which is also very fun to experience!

Guindaste Viewpoint is located 40 minutes away from Funchal and is accessible by public transportation with SAM bus number 53. While it's possible to reach it by bus, the most efficient way to get to this viewpoint is with a rented car.

Best time for: Sunrise
