This viewpoint marks the end of the PR8 trail. To reach it, simply follow the trail and climb the hill at its end. Pico do Furado is an excellent spot to capture the first light of the day on Madeira. From the top, you have a clear view of the end of the Dragon Tail, a series of separate islands accessible only by boat, with a lighthouse on the farthest one. Turning back, you can see the entire island, including its highest mountains, such as Pico do Arieiro, which is easily identifiable by the white round radar on its summit.

The best part about this viewpoint is that it is outside the prohibited red zone, allowing you to fly a drone from there. To get there for sunrise, you'll need to walk the entire PR8 trail early in the morning, which will take you about 1.5h. Although the trail is straightforward, it is possible to get lost by accidentally taking one of the side paths. To ensure you reach your destination on time, use a free app called maps.me.
