Levada dos Cedros is an 11 km circuit hike that takes you through a beautiful forest of cedar trees and along a winding levada, mostly shaded by trees. The trail is well-marked and has a moderate level of difficulty, making it accessible to hikers of all levels.
The hike begins at road ER209, where you can park your car on the roadside. The first few kilometers are flat, following the levada through a green forest, providing shade along the entire way. After a few kilometers, you'll reach the first point of interest: a lookout point revealing a beautiful valley. This viewpoint, one of the few open areas on the trail, offers a great opportunity to take in the surrounding landscape.
Shortly after the viewpoint, you'll encounter a picturesque wooden bridge that perfectly complements its surroundings, making it an ideal spot for photos.
Soon after the bridge, the levada ends in a charming valley filled with small waterfalls, creating a fairy-tale-like setting.
From here, you have two options to return. You can retrace your steps back to the starting point, or you can take the challenging stairs to Fanal Forest. The stairs are quite exhausting but will shorten your hike and quickly lead you to Fanal Forest, another spot worth visiting in the area. From Fanal you need to walk another 3KM along the ER209 road to get back to your car.
