Lake Gault is a breathtakingly beautiful lake nestled in Fox Glacier, West Coast of South Island. It is located at an altitude of 333 metres above the sea level and has an area of 31.8 hectares and an average depth of 14.5 metres. It is surrounded by majestic native forests of rimu, southern rātā and kāmahi trees, dotted with horopito, tawheowheo, and kiekie. The lake is known for its dark, tannin-stained water that creates spectacular reflections of nearby Southern Alps, especially Aoraki / Mount Cook, and Mount Tasman. Lake Gault offers an unforgettable hiking experience for any outdoor enthusiast. Its 4-kilometer walking track leading to the lake provides stunning views through mature native forest and 200 meters of climbing. And at the end of the traverse lies the tranquil waters of Lake Gault, inviting visitors to relax and take in the natural beauty around them.
