Ward Beach, located in New Zealand's Marlborough region is well-known for its unusual rock formations. The large uplift of the seabed that was caused by the 2016 Kaikōura earthquake revealed an array of spherical concretions also known as the Ward Beach Boulders. These boulders are similar to the Moeraki Boulders that lie south of Oamaru and were formed in the ocean floor when mudstone was buried by sediment over several million years. These boulders make it a fascinating place for visitors both local and international that come to explore the rocky coastline.
