Lake Ōhau is a serene glacial lake located in the Mackenzie Basin region of the South Island of New Zealand. A great place for outdoor activities, this area of the country offers many attractions for people of varying interests. Stargazers can take delight in the night sky as the Aoraki Mackenzie Dark Sky Reserve was declared here in 2012, while ski and snowboarders can ski down the slopes at the Ohau Ski Field. The Hopkins and Dobson rivers feed into the northern end of the lake while its outflow feeds into the Waitaki River hydroelectric project. For those interested in relaxation, fishing for rainbow trout and brown trout can be enjoyed, or visitors can simply admire Lake Ōhau's beauty with leisurely strolls around the lake.
