Balmoral Fire Lookout Recreation Reserve is a cool spot for a family picnic with awesome views all around. The lookout, perched on a rocky outcrop above the Hurunui River, offers stunning vistas of Balmoral Forest, surrounding hills, the river, and more. Built in 1940 to keep an eye out for wildfires, this historic wooden building is a rare gem in Canterbury. You can't go inside, but you can peek through the windows and soak up the history while enjoying the scenery. Just a short drive off SH7, it's a neat little stop on your road trip adventure!
