Difficult hike with one of the most rewarding and most photographed views in NZ. 7-8 hours return

Roy's Peak Lookout is a popular hike located outside the town of Wanaka near the edge of Mt Aspiring National Park. Hikers can journey to one of New Zealand's most amazing views, from the famous viewpoint with very few others around and a breathtaking sunrise over Lake Wanaka. This 16-kilometer (10 miles) out-and-back trail is moderately difficult and offers a spectacular view from the top. With an elevation gain of 1,258 (4,127 feet) meters, hikers should bring plenty of water, layers, windbreaker clothing, snacks, and for extra help, hiking poles. The Roy’s Peak parking lot is located 6 kilometers (3.7 mi) from Wanaka on Wanaka Mount Aspiring Road. For those looking to avoid the crowds, sunrise or sunset is the perfect time to visit and experience this epic mountain view!
