Klein Curaçao, otherwise known as Little Curacao, is an uninhabited island located 10 km south-east of Curacao in the Dutch Caribbean. Klein Curaçao is a popular destination for diving and beach activities - tourists who take a day trip from Curacao can explore the desert climate and turquoise waters of Little Curacao. They can also marvel at the remains of an old lighthouse, as well as the shipwreck of the Maria Bianca Guidesman, which was grounded in 1988. There are also some remnants from the slave trade still visible on the island. It is here that those who were sick onboard ships travelling from Africa to Curaçao were quarantined, and the dead were buried. Now, Klein Curacao is a protected Ramsar Site and has been identified as an Important Bird Area by BirdLife International. Truly an amazing oasis to explore!
