Some say Portugal is all about codfish. However, sardines are also a national passion, particularly in summertime. Eating Sardines in Carnide, a typical (non-touristic) Lisbon neighborhood, is an experience mostly only locals enjoy.
At Rua Neves Costa ("Neves Costa street") you can find several restaurants all lined up at this place's bandstand, serving all kinds of Portuguese food, with an emphasis on seafood and, of course, sardines.
We recommend the following restaurants in this area: Adega das Gravatas, O Miudinho, Carvoeiro de Carnide, Coreto do Bairro, Petiscaria 5 Elementos and Gaivota Voando.
Carnide's historic center is known for its well preserved architecture and style, so walking along the nearby streets feels like being in Lisbon several decades ago, where there were no tall buildings or elevators.
