Alvalade is a charming, planned, non-touristic and relatively recent neighborhood in Lisbon, Portugal, created in the 1960s.

Avenida da Igreja ("Church Avenue") is one of its main points of interest, with many shops and restaurants. If you want to enjoy Lisbon as a local, this is a great spot.

For a true local experience, don't forget to check the nearby Mercado de Alvalade ("Alvalade Market"), the neighborhood's public market.
