Ásbyrgi is a horseshoe-shaped canyon located in the northern part of Iceland. The canyon is approximately 3.5 kilometers long and 1.1 kilometers wide, and is surrounded by towering cliffs that reach up to 100 meters high.

Ásbyrgi is believed to have been formed by a catastrophic glacial flood thousands of years ago. According to Icelandic folklore, the canyon was created by the hoofprint of Sleipnir, the eight-legged horse of the god Odin. The area is considered to be one of the most magical and awe-inspiring places in Iceland, with a peaceful atmosphere that draws visitors from all over the world.

There are multiple hiking opportunities in the area. Take a visit first at Ásbyrgi Visitor Centre to decide wich route you would like to hike.
