The Solheimasandur Plane Wreck is a unique and fascinating site located on the black sand beach of Solheimasandur in southern Iceland. The wreckage of a US Navy plane, a Douglas DC-3, has been left abandoned on the beach since 1973 when it crashed during an emergency landing. Fortunately, everyone on board survived the crash.

Today, the Solheimasandur Plane Wreck is a popular tourist attraction for those visiting Iceland, and it is a unique spot for photography enthusiasts. The stark contrast of the rusted metal against the black sand beach and the rugged landscape creates an eerie and dramatic atmosphere.

Getting to the wreckage involves a hike of around 4 km (2.5 mi) from the nearest parking area, making it a bit of an adventure to reach. However, the walk is relatively flat and easy, and the views along the way are stunning.
