Everything you need to know about these types of camps.
In Tanzania, it's usual to stay in a tented camp on safari! Tented camps are awesome and such a unique way to experience a safari.
One type of camp that might be suggested to you is a 'mobile safari camp'. A mobile camp is a semi-permanent camp that sets up in one location for a period of time and then later in the year will move to a different location.
These camps are usually found in the Serengeti National Park and generally move with the Great Migration herds. For example, the camp may be situated in the Northern Serengeti between June - November for the big push of the Great Migration and then move to the Ndutu Region/ Southern Serengeti between December - April for the calving season.
Here is what you need to know:
Due to the nature of mobile camps you can end up in some pretty amazing locations in the heart of the wilderness!
You can often have an incredible immersive wildlife experience.
Some of the mobile camps can be set up in very remote and exclusive locations!
Some of the mobile camps can be incredibly eco-friendly!
Mobile tented camps can sometimes be more basic than permanent camps, due to the nature of needing to be packed up. That said, the quality of camp will depend on the accommodation provider and some are better than others.
You can still get hot running water in your tent and flushable toilets!
We stayed in one mobile camp on our trip and it was our least favourite of the accommodation we stayed in! That said, it wasn't 'bad' - we have stayed in worse hotel rooms!! The standard of the rooms and facilities just didn't feel as high as the other camps we visited.
