As stated above, this is the second most popular trail among visitors to El Chaltén. And it's no surprise, this really is an spectacular destination and where I took my favorite photo in all of Patagonia.

This is a slightly easier trail compared to the one that leads to Mont Fitz Roy, especially because the differences are less steep, despite existing.

The hiking starts at the Laguna Torre Trailhead, conveniently located near the town center. The trail is approximately 9 kilometers (5.6 miles) each way and takes around 3-4 hours to reach the stunning Laguna Torre at the base of the iconic Cerro Torre. The hike is relatively moderate, with gradual inclines that pass through picturesque landscapes, including forests, valleys, and river crossings.

Along the way, you’ll find several viewpoints that offer glimpses of the rugged peaks ahead. The trail is well-marked, making navigation straightforward even for less experienced hikers. At the end, you’ll be rewarded with the breathtaking sight of Laguna Torre, surrounded by floating icebergs and framed by the dramatic spires of Cerro Torre.

PRO TIPS
1. This trail does not have drinking water sources. Therefore, everything you consume you will have to take with you. Two liters may be too little if you go up on a sunny day. A good idea is to take moist foods, such as tomato sandwiches, pea pastes and cakes, to avoid further dehydrating your body.

2. Once you reach the top, and if your knees are still fit, try exploring the shore on the right hand side of the lagoon. This trail will take you very close to the Torre glacier, which collapses in a curve through a valley between mountains until reaching the lagoon.
