Pontcysyllte Aqueduct is just one of the amazing features of the Llangollen canal. But, full disclosure - my mama bear anxiety was high crossing this one with the kids!! Still worth the visit, just get ready to hold their hands TIGHT! Here's my favourite 3 ways to visit with kids...

1. BY BIKE. The Dad's took the kids on a bikepacking trip last summer down the canal starting at Chirk and ending at a campsite in Llangollen. There were 2 aqueducts to cross, some really long dark tunnels to navigate and of course the beautiful horseshoe falls waiting for you at the end. But wherever you get on or off the Llangollen canal you'll find something spectacular.

2. A SHORT WALK. You don't have to make a multi-day adventure to appreciate the world famous aqueduct. For a short day out you can Park at Trevor basin and walk about 10 minutes down the canal to the aqueduct. There's also great little walk through the woodland down to the river below. Where you can see the aqueduct from below.

3. A LONGER WALK. There's a great circular walk from Ty Mawr Country park down the river to the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct. It's well sign posted and has a few paddle and picnic spots along the river banks. The Pontcysyllte Aqueduct is a famous navigable aqueduct in Wales that carries the Llangollen Canal over the River Dee. Built in 1805 by Thomas Telford, it's known for its impressive 18-arched stone and cast iron structure, making it the longest aqueduct in Great Britain and the highest canal aqueduct in the world. Despite facing challenges and changes in plans during construction, the aqueduct has stood the test of time and remains a remarkable feat of engineering, attracting visitors from around the globe to marvel at its beauty and historical significance.
