🇧🇷Castelo Mendo é uma encantadora vila medieval que fica bem perto da fronteira espanhola em Portugal. Também faz parte das '12 Aldeias Históricas de Portugal'. Com as suas ruas estreitas, casas de pedra e monumentos históricos como igrejas e um pelourinho, Castelo Mendo tem um tranquilo e autêntico pedaço do passado de Portugal.
Passe no artesanato S.Sancho que fica na rua principal da aldeia e converse com a simpática D.Maria. Ela é a guardiã das histórias da aldeia, e também tem memórias de quando morava onde é a atual loja.
A entrada principal é a Porta da Vila e tem dois berrões (monumentos em pedra que datam 2a.c.) para recepcionar.
Visite o largo do pelourinho que é um dos mais altos da Beira interior, tem 7metros.
Procure pelas gárgulas do Mendo e da Menda (duas figuras em Pedra). Conta a história que seriam dois apaixonados que tiveram o amor proibido. E hoje ficam para sempre um olhando para o outro (O Mendo está na antiga Câmara e a Menda está na casa da frente)
Suba até a Igreja de Santa Maria, entre pelo portão da frente da igreja, ela fica aberta.

🇺🇸Castle Mendo is a charming medieval village nestled near the Spanish border in Portugal. It's also part of the '12 Historic Villages of Portugal.' With its narrow streets, stone houses, and historical monuments like churches and a pillory, Castle Mendo offers a tranquil and authentic slice of Portugal's past.

Drop by S.Sancho Craft Shop located on the main street of the village and have a chat with the friendly D. Maria. She's the keeper of the village's stories and also has memories of when she lived where the current shop stands.

The main entrance is the Porta da Vila, adorned with two stone boars (monuments dating back to 2nd century BC) to welcome visitors.

Visit the pelourinho square, one of the tallest in the Beira Interior region, standing at 7 meters tall.

Look for the gargoyles of Mendo and Menda (two stone figures). Legend has it they were lovers whose love was forbidden. Today, they forever gaze at each other (Mendo is at the former Town Hall and Menda is at the house across).

Climb up to the Church of Santa Maria, enter through the front gate as it's usually open. Take a moment to admire the wonderful landscape around.
