Message from Roberto Luigi Pagani

Staðarfellskirkja is a historic church located in the west of Iceland. Staðarfellskirkja, which currently stands, was consecrated in 1891, but before that there were several churches. In the tower of the church there are two bells. The older is believed to be from before 1300. The younger bell is marked with the year 1722 and is 40 cm in diameter. In the visitation of Bishop Jón Árnason on September 15, 1725, it is said that Margrét Nikuklásdóttir contributed this bell. In the visitation of Bishop Jón Vídalín on August 16, 1718, it is said that Margrét should contribute a bell to the church which cost . not less than 12 ríksdalir. It was for the payment of an old debt and for decorations that disappeared from the church. 1

In the soul gate of the cemetery, you can also find one other bell. It has the same old style as the older one in the church and probably from the same period, so before 1300. The clock has an old cross mark, but is otherwise unmarked. It is cracked and you can clearly hear it in its sound. This clock used to be in Hvolskirkja
